Assignment and clients’ wish was to create a building that has a “roof”, is contemporary and unique and is not just another modern functionalist box …Save this picture!© Ester HavlováInstead of transforming the traditional morphology of the house with traditional roof, which can be seen in different variants on adjacent estates, we deliberately chose an opposite approach, which allowed us to get rid of stereotypes in anticipation of what the house should look like. We decided to design it as an organically shaped object, which contains mass with functional interior layout, while the softly undulating roof plane is a loose copy of the line of hill Hořický located on the other side of the valley.Save this picture!© Ester HavlováThe simple interior layout is arranged around the transparent entrance area, situated in the approximate center of mass of the object. One of the most important requirements for design of the house was a large aquarium. During the search of final design, it occurred in different parts of the main living space. The last option, in which the aquarium is a part of the office and is directly connected to the living room, has proven the best and was subsequently implemented.Save this picture!© Ester HavlováSave this picture!Floor PlanSave this picture!© Ester HavlováIndoor living space is extended to the exterior by sheltered terrace protected on three sides. This comfortable outdoor space immediately adjacent to the dining room and inserted into a space with unobstructed view of the landscape significantly extends the possibilities of the house and is often used by its inhabitants. The terrace is also ending the covered walkway that allows walking around the house with “dry feet” even in less favorable weather conditions.Save this picture!© Ester HavlováWhile the house is a distinctive solitaire, the winery, which has relation to the professional life of clients, can easily be overlooked in the garden since it is mostly recessing under the ground. Just as in the case of the house, the interior of the wine cellar is extended by an outdoor terrace. This is left uncovered. It is protected from all four sides, thereby achieving maximum privacy while maintaining the necessary contact with the exterior, in this case with the sky.Save this picture!SectionsSave this picture!© Ester HavlováSave this picture!SectionSince the clients are very busy people, the assignment included minimization of burdening them with issues in the process of realization. Therefore, we did not only design the house, but we also completely realized it.Save this picture!© Ester HavlováThe vertical structure of the house is made from ceramic walls. Thermal insulation of facades is from thermal insulation composite system. Roof structure above the internal space of the house is made from prefabricated panels. Protruding parts of the roof are from wooden beams covered with Knauf AQUAPANEL® system. Garden winery is made from waterproof concrete, which is left exposed without surface treatment. Openings are solved with aluminum Schüco system and triple-glazed insulating windows. The building has very low energy consumption; it is evaluated as level B – very efficient.Product Description: AQUAPANEL® Cement Board technology – delivers a complete revolutionized the design and construction of buildings across Europe. It is a building material with an extremely long life, which creates a massive and dry surface that can withstand extreme moisture and climatic influences. Cement sheets are easy to install and offer decisive advantages while minimizing installation costs. We used AQUAPANEL® Cement Board in this project to create the facade and ceiling in the shaped part of the terrace. In this way, we acquired solid base for application of facade screed. Due to this technology, the final surface of the facade is uniform around the whole perimeter of the house, in spite of combining various structural systems.Save this picture!© Ester HavlováProject gallerySee allShow less5 Monuments to ProgressArchitecture NewsEuropean Council and Council of the European Union / Samyn and PartnersSelected Projects Share Architects: ATX Architekti Area Area of this architecture project Czech Republic Year:  Photographs:  Ester Havlová Manufacturers Brands with products used in this architecture project CopyHouses•Blansko, Czech Republic ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/802052/house-with-winery-atx-architekti Clipboard House with Winery / ATX ArchitektiSave this projectSaveHouse with Winery / ATX Architekti CopyAbout this officeATX ArchitektiOfficeFollowProductsWoodSteelConcrete#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesBlanskoCzech RepublicPublished on December 28, 2016Cite: “House with Winery / ATX Architekti” 28 Dec 2016. REMEMBERING GOAT: Book features famous Troy baseball player

first_imgLatest Stories Pike County Sheriff’s Office offering community child ID kits Troy falls to No. 13 Clemson Book Nook to reopen Plans underway for historic Pike County celebration Remember America’s heroes on Memorial Day REMEMBERING GOAT: Book features famous Troy baseball player Thomas Roy “Goat” Walker of Troy is prominently featured in a new book, “Baseball in Montgomery.” The multi-facted athlete played all nine positions on the field (represented by the various gloves above). Walker played for the Troy State Normal School team that was undefeated in 1923. Walker is third from the left on the front row of the photo inset below.A famous Troy baseball player from the early 20th Century is highlighted in a new book.Thomas Roy “Goat” Walker of Troy was a noted baseball player from the 1920s and 1940s. He played on the undefeated Troy State Normal School baseball team and went on to play professionally. He went directly from Troy State Normal School to the Birmingham Barons, which was one step below the major leagues at the time. “‘Goat’ Walker went on to win more that 250 games as a professional pitcher, mostly at class B which was two steps below the major leagues at the time,” said Tommy Horn, Walker’s great-nephew. “He was a good all-around baseball player. In at least one game and, probably more, Goat Walker played all nine positions. That would be unheard of in this day and time. And, he won 20 games twice after he was 40 years old.”“Thomas ‘Goat’ Walker is featured on the cover of a recently published book by Clarence Skip Watkins  and Arcadia Publishing that chronicles the history of Montgomery professional baseball, titled “Baseball in Montgomery.”“There’s a whole chapter on ‘Goat’ Walker in the book,” said Horn. “It even shows a picture of him in one of his classes at Troy High School.” Published 3:00 am Saturday, April 1, 2017 Email the author By The Penny Hoarder Goat Walker was a friend with Johnny Mack Brown who played for the University of Alabama in the first Rose Bowl in 1926. Johnny Mack Brown went on to become a “cowboy” star on the silver screen. Brown had family in Banks and visited there often. That’s how he and Walker became close friends.Walker went on to play baseball for Troy State Normal School. In 1923, the Troy State Normal School team was undefeated and won its conference. The team’s leading player was Goat Walker. But Walker was not just an outstanding collegiate baseball player, he excelled in other sports as well. However, baseball and boxing were his favorite sports. “Goat” Walker was the first of three generations to play for the college in Troy.  His nephew John C. Horn played for Troy State College in 1950 and then played catcher for Dothan and Graceville in the old professional class D Alabama Florida league.  John Horn’s nephew, Tommy Horn, played for Troy State University in 1970 and 1971.Horn said, in all likelihood, his love of baseball and his ability to play the game came from his great-uncle Goat Walker.“He was a great baseball player and one of the best to play the game in Montgomery,” Horn said. “And, for sure, he was one of the most popular players to ever play there.”Although Montgomery had been in the professional baseball business since 1892, the city had not had the honor and excitement of winning a championship. But in 1928, the Montgomery Lions team was laced with Southern boys and Goat Walker was a team favorite. The Lions brought a baseball championship to the Capital City. The Lions beat the Ashville Tourists in a best of seven series. Montgomery won the series in six games. Walker was responsible for two of the wins against Pensacola for the championship. The Montgomery Lions won a second championship in 1929. Walker left the Montgomery Lions after the 1930 season and the fans honored him with Roy Walker Night. His four best years as a pitcher were at Jacksonville, Florida where he won 74 games in that time span. Walker returned to Montgomery for three years. When he left Montgomery in 1942, he was honored again with fans’ appreciation night.Goat Walker had a humble disposition. He played many positions and had a hot bat as well. He became a favorite wherever he played, Horn said. At the close of his career, Goat Walker played two years with Selma but was hobbled by injuries. In 1950, Walker took the mound for the last time in his professional baseball career. He made a start for the Cloverleafs but was hit in the leg with a screaming line drive.  The fans heard the crack of the bat and the crack of Walker’s bone. He was carried off the field. His career had ended. He was 47 years old. TGS, PGS in Barents Sea 3D seismic survey (Norway)

first_imgTwo Norwegian seismic companies TGS and PGS have announced a new multi-client project in the Barents Sea, offshore Norway, labeled the Nansen 3D Geostreamer. The survey will cover around 6100 square kilometers in an active APA area of the Hammerfest Basin. The acquisition is expected to start in late May and is due to be completed in September 2018.According to a statement on Tuesday, the project is designed to improve the imaging of the known fields and discoveries and allow identification and development of new targets in both mature and new plays. The survey area contains shallow targets on the basin flanks and platforms, with deeper exploration potential elsewhere in the basin.Kristian Johansen, CEO, TGS:”Nansen 3D will expand TGS’ data coverage in the Barents Sea where we have a strong track record of success. This project will provide modern, high quality seismic data to an area that is highly relevant for exploration in the current and upcoming APA rounds,” saidPGS’ Ramform Atlas will tow an ultra-high-density 3D configuration with a 16 x 56.25 m x 7,000 m setup. Three of the streamers are towed with 10 km offsets for optimized performance of full waveform inversion (FWI).Data processing will be performed by TGS using its Clari-Fi(TM) broadband technology. Fast-track data will be available in Q1 2019 with final data in Q4, TGS said.Towing configuration (image source: PGS)last_img read more

Trial involving former owner of Marpin adjourned

first_img Tweet Ronald B AbrahamThe trial involving the former chief executive officer of Marpin Telecoms & Broadcasting Company Limited Ronald B Abraham, which was scheduled for Friday morning, has been adjourned. The former auditor of Marpin Telecoms and Broadcasting, Chattered Accountant Kieron Pinard Byrne filed an application at the court which was supported by three board members namely; Dense Shillingford, Anthony Bernette Biscombe and Patricia Englis to hold the former CEO responsible for $16, 261,810.76 of the Company’s liabilities. Judge Brian Cottle upheld the application ordering Abraham to pay $16, 261,810.76 to Kieron Pinard Byrne who was appointed by the court as liquidator.Cottle said his decision came as a result of several factors, however one of the reasons he highlighted was that Abraham “failed to participate meaningfully in the trail hence all the evidence of the liquidator and the other witnesses on his behalf remained unchallenged”.However, Lennox Lawrence, who represents Abraham told Dominica Vibes News that he is “absolutely confident” that the judgment will be set aside by the court.Lawrence contends that a court order which stipulated that his client should be consulted and before the date of trial was fixed was not adhered to neither was his client notified of the trial date and so he could not participate in the trial.“There are two defects; there was an order saying that he should have been consulted before a date was fixed and they did not comply with that. Secondly, the hearing went on without him being notified that there was a hearing”. He explained further that there are also procedural defects in the trail as a defendant must be informed of the case being made against him.“The lawyers for Keiron Pinard Byrne should have prepared trial bundles with the witness statements as well as the documents they intended to rely on the bundles and they should have served it on the defendant at least 10 days before the trial. So he would know what the witnesses are going to say, what the experts are going to say and therefore come prepared to answer to the case”.He said based on these defects and procedural errors “the law says such judgment should be set aside”. Lawrence was notified on his way to court that the matter had been adjourned but was not given a date or a reason for the adjournment. However, Justice Cottle who is presiding over the trial is scheduled to sentence a Soufriere family this morning.Herbert Xavier, Lauretta Xavier and Manuella Williams were found guilty on March 9th, 2012 by a nine member jury of murdering their brother Harrison Williams on the 24th of September, 2011.Dominica Vibes News Share 24 Views   one comment Sharing is caring!center_img Share Share LocalNews Trial involving former owner of Marpin adjourned by: – March 23, 2012last_img read more

Steyer pushes for wealth tax to address income inequality

first_imgDES MOINES — California billionaire Tom Steyer says he’s ready to do what’s politically inconvenient as president and seek constitutional changes that limit the time politicians can spend in congress to 12 years. He’d also ban corporate spending in politics.“My message is super important and I am out there trying to make sure that people hear it as much as possible and understand why I can be trusted to take action and not just talk,” Steyer said during a recent Radio Iowa interview.Steyer was in the state this weekend for a CNN town hall forum at Grinnell College. He addressed the recent resignation of an Iowa aide accused of offering contributions to legislators in exchange for a Steyer endorsement. Steyer said that was inappropriate and his campaign sought that person’s an immediate resignation. Steyer also sent a message to another billionaire who may enter the race in early 2020. Steyer said Michael Bloomberg needs to support a “wealth tax.”“Not only is the income so unjust, so undemocratic and so unfair — the distribution of incomes — the distribution of wealth across society is an absolute scandal,” Steyer said on CNN.Steyer is a former hedge fund manager who has spent at least $46 million on advertising for his presidential campaign. Before that, Steyer bankrolled the “Need to Impeach” campaign. On November 1, at the big Iowa Democratic Party fundraiser, Steyer chose to make Trump his primary target.“Everybody you hear today is more honest, more coherent and more patriotic than the criminal who resides at the White House,” he said, to cheers from the Liberty and Justice Celebration crowd. “Everybody!”Steyer, who has pledged his number one priority as president would be action on climate change, has been one of the Democratic Party’s most prominent environmental activists in the past decade.“I started a company by myself…and I built a pretty big company,” Steyer told Radio Iowa. “Then I took the ‘giving pledge’ to give away the bulk of my assets while I’m alive to good causes. I walked away from that company and I’ve spent the rest of my life building coalitions of Americans to take on unchecked power and to push for broader democracy.”Steyer announced this past January in Des Moines that he would not run for president, but changed his mind and entered the race in July.“If you think that I’m right on my basic thesis, government is broken, you have to ask who will actually change the culture and get back to government by and for the people and the question is: ‘Is it going to be someone from the outside or someone from the inside?’” Steyer told Radio Iowa.Steyer has been involved in voter turn-out efforts in Iowa since 2014 through a group he founded called NextGen America. That group’s still working to register younger voters and is active on 41 Iowa college and university campuses.last_img read more
