Democratic lawmakers are bringing a bill to the House floor to raise the federal minimum wage to 15-dollars.At Capitol Hill Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it would give millions of American women a raise. The legislation would increase the national minimum pay rate to $15 per hour over the course of five years through scheduled annual increases. It has more than 180 co-sponsors, including support from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.The current minimum wage is seven dollars and 25-cents per hour, which has not been changed since 2009.Republican lawmakers argue that raising the minimum wage would cause small businesses to suffer and millions of people to lose their jobs. This story is developing.
0Shares0000Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at times bemoaned the subdued atmosphere in modern English grounds, even at the mythical Anfield, compared to his grounding in Germany’s Bundesliga © AFP / Lindsey PARNABYLIVERPOOL, United Kingdom, Apr 23 – A confessed admirer of the underdog tales of Robin Hood and Rocky Balboa, Jurgen Klopp is probably uncomfortable with Liverpool’s status as strong favourites in Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final, first leg against Roma. However, it is testament to how far the German has revitalised a sleeping giant on the European stage that Liverpool’s first appearance in the Champions League last four for a decade is met with such expectation. It hasn’t always been a such a smooth ride since Klopp arrived an Anfield two-and-a-half years ago.Indeed, even in the aftermath of a 5-1 quarter-final thrashing of hitherto tournament favourites Manchester City, Klopp warned the clock was ticking on his promise to deliver a trophy within four years of taking charge.Early in his reign Klopp at times bemoaned the subdued atmosphere in modern English grounds, even at the mythical Anfield, compared to his grounding in Germany’s Bundesliga.By contrast, Anfield will be at fever pitch on Tuesday to try and inspire the five-time European champions back to club’s football’s biggest game in the Kiev final on May 26.“The Champions League nights are special for the fans too,” Liverpool’s talisman Mohamed Salah — who has scored an incredible 41 goals in his debut season for the club — told CNN. “You can feel it on the streets.“The atmosphere in that first game against Man City was the first time I had really seen something like that.”Premier League champions City’s evisceration by a three-goal blitz in 19 first-half minutes was just another chapter in a long history of famous European nights at Anfield.“The Liverpool fans, they all believe ‘this is our competition’,” recognised City boss Pep Guardiola afterwards. But it came on the back of a rallying cry by Klopp for his players not to be intimidated by Liverpool’s history in the competition, but to make memories they too will be remembered for.– A mirror image of their manager –Liverpool’s high-energy style that even City couldn’t cope with is a mirror image of their manager on the touchline.“If something is important to me, I cannot hide my feelings. When I’m happy everyone can see and it’s the same when I’m angry,” Klopp told The Big Interview podcast. However, Klopp’s revival of Liverpool has come from far more than rabble rousing. His fluid 4-3-3 system has brought the best out of a prolific front three of Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, who have combined for 83 goals this season.“I think Jurgen is a master to buy players with what he really needs for the way he wants to play,” said Guardiola, who has suffered more defeats in his career to Klopp than any other manager. Most impressively of all, Klopp’s management has also ensured that Liverpool’s flurry of goals hasn’t dried up despite losing Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £142 million ($199 million) in January and not buying a natural replacement.Instead just over half of that fee was spent on Virgil Van Dijk to bolster a defence that often let Klopp down in his first two years in England.Since the £75 million Dutchman was recruited, Liverpool have conceded just once in four European outings.Klopp has also learned from his own mistakes. The intensity of his demands left Liverpool drained in the second-half of last season after a promising start to the campaign. This season no manager has rotated more than Klopp in the Premier League with the payoff that his side remain the sole English representatives in the last four.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)

Let’s take a look at some practical cinematography and editing tips that can help you create smooth, stable, and beautiful smartphone videos. No one in the film and video industry wants to hear this, but there’ll come a day when we shoot everything on smartphones. Or, at least, some version of smartphones, which could very well end up being as powerful as any of their big cinema camera counterparts, perhaps in only a few years.Until then, shooting videos, short films, documentaries, and even features on smartphones can be a good solution for web or social-based projects, or at least a fun gimmick for anything bigger. Yet, these are the early days of the future, so any skills that you can learn and develop will end up helping you in the long run.One of the biggest issues with smartphone videos (as with any other type of videography) is stabilization. Smartphone filmmakers often find themselves shooting handheld, which compounds the problem. In this write-up, we’ll take a look at how to make sure your smartphone videos look both stable and cinematic.DIY StabilizationImage by Dean Drobot. It’s amazing what the latest generations of smartphones can do with digital in-camera effects and stabilization. If you look at, say, an iPhone 8 or XS, you’ll find some very impressive automated functions that you can quickly adjust for all types of color temperature, lighting settings, and even stabilization.Your first step is to simply know what your phone can do and work with it when recording smartphone videos. Your smartphone should adjust for natural handheld movements as long as you follow these rules:Move the camera slowly.Give it time to adjust to new lighting.Keep two hands on your smartphone at all times. But don’t confuse smartphone 4K with the same quality as 4K from your DSLR, mirrorless, or cinema cameras — there’s a huge difference. However, in-camera, your smartphone is highly capable of working with handheld, shaky mount settings — probably much better than most cameras you’ll find on the market.Smartphone Stabilizer RigsImage by Rawpixel.com.Smartphone mount and rig options offer even more stabilization. Here are some solid options to consider. (Generally, the more expensive, the more stabilization.)RetiCAM — $20ZTYLUS Pistol Grip — $30iOgrapher Multi Case — $70DJI Osmo Mobile 2 — $140BeastGrip Pro — $140It’s worth noting, though, that even the most basic “selfie sticks” or smartphone holders can create at least a little more stability than going straight handheld. Experiment to find what works for you and your smartphone video needs.Stabilizing in Premiere ProUnless you’re editing in-smartphone with apps like Adobe Premiere Rush or iMovie, to get the best results with your smartphone footage, you should treat it as you would footage from any other shoot. That means bringing it into Adobe Premiere Pro — or your video editing platform of choice. As you can see in the simple tutorial above, Warp Stabilizer can be a very powerful-yet-easy-to-use tool for fixing shaky footage. Your smartphone videos might be a little trickier to work with than any higher-quality footage You’re used to, but you’d be amazed what Adobe’s technology can do these days.If you’re looking for more insights, here’s some more on Premiere Pro’s Warp Stabilizer:Video Tutorial: A Brief Guide to the Warp StabilizerFix Shaky Footage with Warp Stabilizer in Premiere ProVideo Editing 101: How to Stabilize Footage in Premiere Pro Cover image by Piotr Piatrouski. For more smartphone videography and editing tips, check out some of these articles:Smartphone Filmmaking: Saving Battery Life and Storage SpaceShooting a Feature with an iPhone the Soderbergh WaySmartphone Filmmaking: Pro iPhone Videographer EquipmentWorking With Vertical Phone Footage in Post-ProductionShould You Make a Feature Film on a Phone?

New York: US oil giant Chevron announced Friday it had agreed to acquire all outstanding shares of Anadarko in a stock and cash transaction valued at $33 billion, or $65 per share. Based on Chevron’s Thursday closing price, Anadarko shareholders will receive 0.39 shares of Chevron and USD16.25 in cash for each Anadarko share held, the company said in a statement. The total enterprise value of the transaction is USD50 billion. “The acquisition of Anadarko will significantly enhance Chevron’s already advantaged Upstream portfolio and further strengthen its leading positions in large, attractive shale, deepwater and natural gas resource basins,” the company said. Shares of Apache Corp, which also has extensive acreage in the Permian Basin, jumped 7 percent in premarket trading, while Pioneer Natural Resources Co rose 6 per cent. US crude oil production now surpasses 12 million barrels a day (bpd), and the nation is the third-largest producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the super-cooled fuel that is seeing record demand as a cheaper, cleaner alternative for countries that still rely heavily on coal for power generation. Chevron, which already has 2.3 million acres in the Permian Basin, said the deal to buy Anadarko would give the combined company a 75-mile (120-km)-wide corridor across the Permian’s Delaware basin, on the Texas-New Mexico border. Anadarko also has a Mozambique LNG project, part of one of the industry’s largest planned current investments. Chevron Chief Executive Michael Wirth will lead the combined company after the deal closes. Chevron will remain headquartered in San Ramon, California.
