HAIR HAIR! DONEGAL MAN SHAVES HIS 20 YEAR DREADLOCKS FOR BELOVED NIECE

first_imgA Donegal man who had been growing his dreadlocks for more than TWENTY years has shaved them off to raise money for his little niece.Ian E. Dullaghan had been a distinctive figure around Donegal with his ginger dreadlocks turning many a head. However, he parted with his beloved dreadlocks on Sunday night as part of a charity fundraiser for the Grace Harper Trust. One man that took great pleasure in cutting off the dreadlocks was Ian’s father Tommy who had constantly been nagging his son to sort out that head of hair on him!Ian’s brother Rodney Dullaghan told Donegal Daily, “Ian ‘Doogy’ Dullaghan’s head shave in aid of the Grace Harper Trust was a massive success last Sunday night in Barca Bar, Ballybofey. “A huge crowd turned up to see the famous dreadlocks come off and with some money still coming in, it looks like Doogy has raised over €4,500 for Grace. “The music on the night was fantastic with two highly acclaimed acts – ‘The Other Breed’ and ‘Graham Sweeney’ very generously playing for their friend and bringing the packed house down.“Dad also thoroughly enjoyed the night and took wonderful pleasure on shaving the dreadlocks off.“The look never really GREW on dad to say the least. When Grace who is now 11 years-old was almost a year old she suffered two convulsions brought on by viral meningitis. At that point, Grace lost all of her physical abilities including crawling and speech.Since then, Grace’s journey and that of her family, has been incredible. With the help of regular and intense speech therapy and physiotherapy Grace slowly relearned how to speak and has regained her upper body strength. In September 2012 Grace began to walk short distances with the support of a k walker. She can now swim, cycle a tricycle and ride a horse independently. She still has difficulty bearing weight, though, and her parents have identified a number of additional therapies that they feel might enable Grace to become stronger and walk greater distances as an initial goal.Grace has been in a wheelchair all of her life, but there is treatment that could help her walk for the first time. However, there is a short window as the possibility of her walking diminishes as she gets older.A continuous fundraising campaign has been on-going to hep raise funds for further treatment to help with Grace’s rehabilitation and mobility. If you’d like to make a donation to the Grace Harper Trust Fund you can by clicking on the link below.http://www.graceharpertrust.com/site/HAIR HAIR! World Cup transport plans in place

first_img24 May 2010South Africa’s transport plans for the 2010 Fifa World Cup™ are shaping up, the latest development being the appointment of a service provider to procure, operate and manage spectator transport for the mega-event.The Department of Transport has appointed the ESC & The African Experience consortium to manage inter-provincial and regional road transport services for both commuter buses and minibus taxis for spectators during the month-long tournament.Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele said he was confident that they would provide a professional service for spectators, as they already operate in the tourism industry.“The taxi industry is to provide a fleet of over 400 mid-buses to ferry spectators around the country, while 110 commuter buses from Autopax will complement these services,” Ndebele said.Fleet usage will be dependent on demand that is generated for the service and ticket sales. Inland and coastal services will also be on offer. The fleet of taxis and buses will be additional to existing transport services in the country.Countrywide servicesThere will be a service between Pretoria, OR Tambo International Airport and Johannesburg, as well as Rustenburg, Polokwane, Mbombela and Bloemfontein. On the coast there will be a service from Knysna to Cape Town via Wilderness, George, Mossel Bay and back. There will also be a service from Mossel Bay to Port Elizabeth via George and Wilderness and back. From East London, spectators will be able to travel to Port Elizabeth via King William’s Town and Grahamstown and back.Further up the coast, services will run between Richards Bay and Durban, the Wild Coast Sun and Durban, and between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.Prices will range from R140 to R300 for a one-way trip. The operational plan and final contract have been finalised for coaches and taxis, said the department.Taxi council supportMeanwhile, the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) is working closely with the consortium to provide a countrywide Minibus solution for spectators.Operational staff will be clearly identifiable through coded arm bands and other branded clothing. “It is not just about sport, it is now truly about transport,” said Ndebele.Source: BuaNewslast_img read more

Abueva, Aces fall short in comeback bid vs Road Warriors

first_imgSPORTSMalditas save PH from shutoutThough those days are long gone, Abueva did admit that his side showed glimpses of that old fight after battling back from 30 points down against the Road Warriors.“I don’t know what happened in the first to third quarters. There were bad calls on our side which prevented us from making a run, but in the fourth quarter, we just played our game and tried our best to cut the lead down,” he said. “We still can’t say that we’ve brought the Alaska of before.
