While all surely have significant meaning for the future NBA star, one – his most recent addition – surely means a bit more than the rest. This past weekend, Cauley-Stein got a massive neck tattoo to honor his late friend Blake Hundley, who passed away from cancer in May at the age of just nine years old. Cauley-Stein and Hundley had developed an incredible friendship in a short time. Cauley-Stein even wore “Team Blake” wristbands during games this past season.Cauley-Stein posted an Instagram photo of the design for his fans. He made no mention of where on his body he’d be getting inked.Cauley-Stein is regarded as one of the most likable players in basketball, so his decision to honor Hundley doesn’t come as a surprise. Whichever teams drafts him this Thursday will certainly be getting a high-character person.
Berlin: More than 70 years after the end of World World II, one of Germany’s richest familiy has admitted to its dark links with Adolf Hitler’s regime. Spokesman of the Reimann family, Peter Harf, told Bild am Sonntag of plans to give 10 million euros (USD 11.3 million) to charity after learning of their elders’ support for the Nazis and their company’s use of forced labour during the war. “Reimann senior and Reimann junior were guilty. The two entrepreneurs have both passed away, they belonged actually in prison,” said Harf. Albert Reimann senior died in 1954 and his son in 1984. The company they left behind, JAB Holding, is today a behemoth that owns household brands ranging from Clearasil to Calgon. With wealth estimated at 33 billion euros, the Reimann family is believed to be Germany’s second richest. Harf said the family began digging into their dark past in the 2000s, and in 2014 decided to commission a historian to produce a thorough study into their ancestors’ ties to Nazism. The family plans to make public a full account when the book by the historian, Paul Erker of Munich University, is finished, said Harf. Quoting letters and archival documents, Bild am Sonntag said Reimann senior was a willing donor to Hitler’s SS as early as 1931. His company was in 1941 deemed a “crucial” firm in the war, as it produced items for the Wehrmacht and the armaments industry. In 1943, the company was using as many as 175 forced labourers, and employed a foreman who was known for his cruel treatment of the workers. Harf, who confirmed the conclusions drawn by the Bild report, said there had been no known efforts to provide any compensation to the forced labourers. “But we have since talked about what we can do now,” he said. “We want to do more and donate ten million euros to a suitable organisation.” Many of Germany’s biggest companies have over the decades confronted their Third Reich history.

In OSU’s 13 victories this season, opponents have taken a set just once. Friday’s matchup was originally scheduled for Jan. 23, but it was postponed because winter weather made travel unsafe. Despite the three-set triumph, the Buckeyes’ performance was far from being a dominant one. The Falcons brought what they had and were able to keep each set close. “I thought we came out a little sluggish and I thought that Pfeiffer played hard,” OSU coach Pete Hanson said. “We cleaned up our side of the net a bit, so that was nice to see.”In the first set, the Falcons got out to a quick lead, but OSU battled back, eventually forcing the opposition to take a timeout. After the short break, the Falcons were revitalized, pulling themselves back into the match. Yet, the relentlessness of OSU was too much down the stretch, as it went on to win the set 25-20.Sophomore outside hitter Nicolas Szerszen led the Buckeyes with five kills in the opening frame.The second set started out much like the first, but consecutive mental mistakes by the Falcons gave OSU a comfortable lead, which it would only build upon. The Buckeyes clinched the middle frame by a score of 25-15.In the final set, with the Falcons needing to win to continue the match, OSU was the one that jumped out to an early lead behind a strong team effort. The Falcons weren’t going to give in, battling back to make the match close. But the Buckeyes, feeling the Falcons chipping into their lead, responded with a flurry of points again, forcing the opposition to take a quick timeout. Behind the momentum, the Scarlet and Gray would go on to win the set 25-20 to seal the contest. “I thought that we took it well,” Szerszen said. “We had some downs and ups, but I thought we managed it pretty well.”OSU finished the match with a .421 percent attack and eight service aces. The Buckeyes also tallied 31 total digs on the night. Individually, Szerszen had a match-high 16 kills. Junior setter Christy Blough paced OSU with a game-leading 34 assists.The final set capped off a night in which the Buckeyes did whatever it took to get the win. This victory was similar to last year’s matchup against the Falcons in St. John Arena, in which OSU won in four sets (25-22, 28-26, 20-25, 25-18). “It was a slower game, but I think that was just from us playing hard over the last few weeks,” junior outside hitter Miles Johnson said. “I think it was a little bit slower tonight, but that’s fine because we got the win.”Two of the players on OSU have recently been awarded athletic honors. Szerszen received the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week award, which he has now been given four times. Johnson was also recognized with the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Week honors, an award that only 15 players at OSU, including Johnson, have ever received. “It’s nice to see the guys have their hard work pay off and get recognize by their peers,” Hanson said. “(It’s) kind of a validation that they’re doing the right things and they’re working on things we’re talking about,”The Buckeyes are set to be back in action at St. John Arena next weekend, when they are scheduled to take on Loyola University on Friday night, followed by Lewis University an evening later. In other words, engagement is doing the heavy lifting for advertisers. The key is creating the right content and making sure the right audience sees it.Still, digital advertising has a host of challenges, and Alegre says one problem is a preconceived notion that it requires a “leap of faith.”However, the reality is that video ad revenue is growing. And Alegre credits user engagement as the catalyst. Because of that, Google has been testing engagement-based sales and is finding it to be successful.Another big strategy for Google is creating programmatic customized experiences. Programmatic advertising has grown 30X since 2010, and Alegre is a firm believer that it is a big piece of the puzzle for the future of digital advertising. That was one of Daniel Alegre’s important takeaways at his morning keynote address at FOLIO:’s MediaNext conference today. The bottom line is this: Your audience is consuming media with multiple screens, so there are more ways to reach people then ever before. And with 90 percent of all media interactions being screen based, and the average person spending around 12.5 hours a day with media, the concept of being offline is no longer accurate, Alegre suggests. “Everybody’s ‘advercasting,’” he says. “We’re always on and always interacting.”
As such, there is no dedicated events staff. The Week has a rate base of 550,000, with 7.2 million monthly uniques on TheWeek.com. It’s a drop in the bucket when compared to a magazine like The New Yorker, with a rate base of 1,025,000, and its own competing events series, The New Yorker Festival, on October 7-9. While the team intends to make such events a fixture, Tara Mitchell, VP of marketing, says the current revenues will not significantly impact the company’s bottom line. And despite industry trends to the contrary, Frumin says the events are an addition to the magazine, not a supplement. “We always want to think about our audience first,” Frumin says. “We have this tremendous magazine. It’s a little weird. It’s idiosyncratic. That’s why it’s so successful, the fact that it is different. So we really wanted it to be an experience where our audience was involved.” Nonetheless, it’s the quality of The Week’s readers which may just make The Week Live a successful endeavor. The Week is getting a taste of live events. Sunday, the small, punchy news digest launched its three-part event series, The Week Live, with a high-brow live cooking class and meal at the Michelin star restaurant Bâtard. “Still to this day, I’ll tell people where I work, and seven or eight out of ten will say, ‘What’s that?’ And the other two or three will say, ‘The Week is the best!” Frumin tells Folio:. “Our readers are straight up evangelical about the magazine, so we also want to serve these people who already love The Week.” “We are a scrappy and relatively small company and we all work on a lot of things. We take pride in that,” Frumin says. “We’re smaller than our competitors and we punch above our weight class.” “We are never going to be an events-first business,” Frumin says. “But we do hope that going forward this will be a great business opportunity.” Tonight, attendees will visit Broadway to see Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, followed by a Q&A hosted by The Week’s managing editor, Carolyn O’Hara. On Thursday, guests will see a special screening of My Blind Brother along with a Q&A by Frumin himself.
