Stewart’s should put out recycling bins
Categories: Letters to the Editor, Opinion Re Oct. 28 letter, “Grateful for changes in Charlton Stewart’s”: In response to Jean Weed regarding the new Charlton Stewart’s and her misguided gratitude, this store shouldn’t have been allowed in this location. As a resident of the West Charlton/Galway community for 32 years, I strongly disagree with Ms. Weed. The West Charlton United Presbyterian Church has been compromised. The Stewart’s Corp. has control of 50 percent of a historic site with commercial buildings now occupying two of the corners at the intersection. The Stewart’s Corp. is conducting this sort of activity everywhere in the Capital Region, and the town of Charlton and its small community have fallen victim. As an environmentalist, I approached the Stewart’s Corp. five years ago and asked them if they would consider placing recycling bins outside their stores. They refused. This could have been an opportunity for a this convenience store company with over 300 locations to set a precedent and lead by example in showing environmental responsibility. Now Stewart’s has come to my community and paved paradise, and there’s still no recycling. I invite Ms. Weed to join forces with me and approach Stewart’s Corp. once again on this recycling issue. We need to be advocates for our community and our planet.Robert ThorpeGalwayMore from The Daily Gazette:EDITORIAL: Find a way to get family members into nursing homesEDITORIAL: Urgent: Today is the last day to complete the censusEDITORIAL: Thruway tax unfair to working motoristsEDITORIAL: Beware of voter intimidationPolice: Schenectady woman tried to take car in Clifton Park hours after arrest, release in prior the…
