first_img“Advercasting” means that anyone can now broadcast his or her own content across multiple digital channels, that means an opportunity for advertisers to create content that tell compelling brand stories, which can then be shared and broadcasted. In other words, engagement is doing the heavy lifting for advertisers. The key is creating the right content and making sure the right audience sees it.Still, digital advertising has a host of challenges, and Alegre says one problem is a preconceived notion that it requires a “leap of faith.”However, the reality is that video ad revenue is growing. And Alegre credits user engagement as the catalyst. Because of that, Google has been testing engagement-based sales and is finding it to be successful.Another big strategy for Google is creating programmatic customized experiences. Programmatic advertising has grown 30X since 2010, and Alegre is a firm believer that it is a big piece of the puzzle for the future of digital advertising. Alegre says the value proposition for programmatic is multi-fold—it makes ad content relevant to a specific consumer; it extends the reach of advertising; and it can be leveraged to capitalize on unique and fleeting moments in real time. Glam Media: Focusing on Quality and CurationGlam Media was launched during New York’s Fashion Week in the fall of 2005. It quickly became the number-one online source for fashion and beauty.In the intervening years it has sold more than 79 billion ads to 90 of the top 100 advertisers in the world. It reaches more than 400 million users globally and is number 7 on the list of the world’s busiest websites.There are reasons for that success, said Glam Media CEO Samir Arora in the day’s second keynote presentation at MediaNext Tuesday afternoon.To start with, it was one of the first to try to supply information on beauty. Arora pointed out Facebook did not yet exist when Glam went into business. “In Internet years, that was a long time ago,” Arora said.Second, Glam itself produces no content on its own, using what he described as a “TV network” model, making arrangements with others to produce the content that it then distributes.“We’ve become partners of anyone who creates content,” he said.In recent years, Glam has also become what Arora describes as a multi-vertical operation, branching out into sites that provide information and content on health, food, families and travel.And, he said, there will be more. “It’s getting easier for us to launch verticals,” Arora said.Glam also focuses on premium brands, both in terms of content and advertising partners, by making sure every piece of content is thoughtfully curated.Although, he pointed out, Glam does not create any of its own content, “We have editors, editors-in-chief, curators, curators-in-chief and TV programmers.”Likewise with advertising. While, Arora says, the average website page has six or seven ads, Glam’s average is 1.3 ads per page.“We are ‘social,’” he says, “but we require quality and curation.” New York—Google is radically changing its approach to advertising and publishers should be paying attention. That was one of Daniel Alegre’s important takeaways at his morning keynote address at FOLIO:’s MediaNext conference today. The bottom line is this: Your audience is consuming media with multiple screens, so there are more ways to reach people then ever before. And with 90 percent of all media interactions being screen based, and the average person spending around 12.5 hours a day with media, the concept of being offline is no longer accurate, Alegre suggests. “Everybody’s ‘advercasting,’” he says. “We’re always on and always interacting.” last_img read more

Senators Seek to Eliminate Policy Language Limiting Housing Allowance

first_img Dan Cohen AUTHOR Language in the Senate version of the fiscal 2017 defense authorization bill that would reduce service members’ basic allowance for housing (BAH) payments in many cases, including for dual-service military families and single members living together, should not be included in the compromise version of the legislation, according to a bipartisan group of 18 senators.The Senate language would limit BAH payments to actual expenses for rent and utilities, preventing personnel from pocketing extra payments if they find less expensive housing. The existing system offers military members a flat payment based on their rank and location.But the Senate proposal also would cut the BAH for dual-military couples in half, to prevent each service member from receiving extra housing compensation. And personnel who choose to share housing would see their individual stipends adjusted to cover only their actual costs, reported Military Times.“The changes outlined in S. 2943 would cause significant financial hardship to many military families and unfairly penalize dual-service military couples as well as single-service members who cohabitate in order to make financial ends meet,” Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and 15 colleagues wrote the leaders of both chambers’ Armed Services committees last week.The Senate provision also would bring about costly, new administrative burdens and unintended consequences to the military services, according to the senators.“Adequate research, planning and understanding is required before such sweeping changes can be responsibly advanced,” they wrote.Senate Armed Services Committee staff say the overhaul would save tens of millions of dollars without sacrificing service members’ housing benefits. DOD officials oppose the plan, describing the BAH as part of members’ larger compensation package.The changes are not part of the bill passed by the House. 1 Dead 22 Injured In New Jersey Arts Festival Shooting

Four of those, including a 13-year-old boy, were in critical condition.Two suspects opened fire around 2:45 a.m. during the Art All Night Trenton festival that showcases local art, music, food and films. One of the suspects, a 33-year-old man, was killed, authorities said. Another suspect is in custody.On Sunday, there was crime scene tape surrounding the site of the old warehouse building that now shares a parking lot with a supermarket, bank and laundry facility.Ernie Rivas has owned a shop near the site of the shooting for 17 years and said he came back from the beach Sunday morning when he heard what happened.“I’ve never seen this happen. It’s bad, I feel bad, especially on Father’s Day,” Rivas said.Theresa Brown said she’s been volunteering at Art All Night for 12 years and has never seen or heard of violence like this. She said she was leaving her volunteer shift around 2 a.m. and heard “pop, pop, pop.”“I thought it was a car backfiring,” she said.She returned to the scene around 7 a.m. and saw the police.Art All Night Trenton began Saturday afternoon and was scheduled to conclude Sunday afternoon. The remainder of the festival has been cancelled.“We’re very shocked. We’re deeply saddened. Our hearts ache and our eyes are blurry but our dedication and resolve to building a better Trenton through community, creativity and inspiration will never fade. Not tonight. Not ever,” festival organizers posted on social media Sunday.A spokeswoman for St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton said 10 victims were being treated there for minor injuries. She said they were both men and women, ranging in age from 17 to 48. They were in various stages of being released, she said.One man with a gunshot wound was transferred to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.Capital Health Systems spokeswoman Kate Stier said they have “at least 16” patients there, including the 13-year-old boy in critical condition. HMC all set to launch online tax payment system on June 25

She gave the direction while presiding over the administrative review meeting in Howrah on June 7.HMC had been working rigorously for the past few months to introduce the online property tax payment system after the decision to implement the same was taken in a high-level meeting headed by Mayor Dr Rathin Chakraborty.
